AskACatholic - Ask us the question that's on your mind today!

Seeing that one of the main goals of this apostolate is to clarify teachings and correct misperceptions about the One Church, Our Blessed Lord Jesus established on St. Peter, for the good of ALL
faith-seekers, Christian and non-Christian alike:

Unless you state otherwise in your question, our dialogue will probably be put into the knowledge base. There can be a big plus. If you are in a tough situation, the more readers that know your name, the greater the probability more readers will pray for your situation.

If your question is of a personal nature and you wish to not be identified, we can substitute your name with Anonymous. Just tell me in the form below when asking the question.
You can also make up an alias name or similar name in line with your inquiry, like:

  • WantToGetMarriedBut wrote:
  • ButMyFamilyWontUnderstand wrote:
  • SeekingButConfused wrote:
  • WantToJoinBut wrote:

or just use an anonymous name. If your name is Mike Humphrey use Thomas Allen.

In addition, I will strive to change all e-mail dialogues of a deeply personal nature to "Anonymous wrote:" before posting. I also exclude questions or portions of the question that are either irrelevant to the purpose and mission of the site, or that have already been answered.

If you are concerned about privacy issues, I would encourage you to use Anonymous or a fictional,
made-up name to protect your identity on personal issues. Why? Because there may be many other visitors who can be helped by your question and our team answers.

Important Note: If you still do not want your question to be posted in our database,
even with a fictional or changed name, after you enter your last name (below), type
(DO NOT POST)

RE: Thank-you for the question.

Many times, we will preface our answers by saying, "Thank-you for the question." This is because,
for anyone to ask a question whether they are Catholic or non-Catholic is to open oneself up to learning more about the faith. Within, and outside the Church, this is a great help to others who probably have been meaning to ask the same question. The result: a more educated world when it comes to the Catholic Christian Faith. So.... Thanks for your questions! and don't be ashamed to ask us!

Note: Some questions we have answered at least 3 times over, so if you don't get a reply in a while, search our knowledge base again. You will probably find the answer to your question. The left navigation bar categorizes the issues by topic. We also have a NEW Frequently Asked Questions page.
Please limit your questions to 4 to 5 per e-mail.

Based on the type of questions we have received over the past 11 years, we now have a (opens in a new window) "WILL NOT ANSWER" policy. These questioners make up less then 1 percent of the people that ask us questions about the Faith, so unless you fall into this category, ask away and remember:

Remember, the only dumb question, is the one not asked.

(Optional): The internet brings together a WORLD-WIDE community of people. So that we can assist you better, and if it is relevant to your question, please share with us some background information:

What country do you live in?
How old are you?
Are you a man or woman?
Do you have family?
Have you had any religious background?
or any other information you believe would assist us in answering your question.

We are starting to receive more questions from Muslims about Catholic Christianity, and have a new set of web pages for non-Christians.

DATELINE: February, 2011 MARRIAGE, DIVORCE AND ANNULMENT ISSUES.

Because of the number of questions we have been receiving related to marriage, divorce, and annulments, our team has agreed that the Church would not want us to answer any of these questions on a specific case by case basis. We are not pastors, priests, nor canon lawyers. We are apologists;
we defend and can explain Catholic doctrine in these areas in general, but for any specific case
we always have, and always will, recommend you make an appointment with your local pastor or priest.

PRIVACY AND COUNSELING ISSUES.

Our main goal at AskACatholic.com is to clarify misconceptions and answer questions about the Teachings and doctrines of the Catholic Church. Our focus: Internet Evangelization and Apologetics. Over the past thirteen years we have been evangelizing, we have received some questions that desire some type of "on-line counseling". We wish to make clear, the apologists at AskACatholic.com are NOT licensed counselors. We can give advice, general guidelines and opinions, but the very best direction a person can take is to bring their concern to a local parish priest that is faithful to the Holy Father and the Teachings of the Church. He will have the ability to apply the total situation, the facts, realities, nuances, to Church Teaching and Canon Law.

NOTE: Some questioners who have written us, have shown an interest in finding out more about what Catholics really believe. If you are a non-Catholic in this category, check out my FREE Catechism of the Catholic Church for non-Catholics today! You can find out more and register here:

Make sure we haven't already answered your question by:

Seeing that our group is totally blind to the age-range of the questioner, if you could give us an idea of how old you are, we can address your question and the other pastoral issues that come with your question. (e.g. A question from a man or woman who is 72 will have a different angle than someone who is 17.) Also, if you reply to our answer, PLEASE use the REPLY ALL feature of your e-mail program. This will ensure the whole team gets your reply, enabling ALL of us to follow-up.

If you have been helped by our site, any support would be appreciated, as I get little, if any, encouragement. If you have been blessed financially in recent times and wish to support the
FREE Catechism Program for Protestants Program, you can donate here: http://www.askacatholic.com/donate. You also may be interested in a related posting.

PLEASE limit the number of questions per e-mail to no more than 3 to 5. You are more then welcome to keep asking questions, but we can do a better job if we can focus on a few to start. After we have answered those you can ask some more.

"Buckshot e-mails" will be ignored. Read the Christian non-Believer under the:

"What's New > My Favorites" area

of the web site for a definition of "Buckshot e-mails".
