Hi, guys —

I'm a 50-year-old Catholic, strong in the faith, and trying to make sure I do the right thing.

I have received the sacraments of Baptism and Marriage and made my First Holy Communion when I was 10 years old.

Over the years, despite being a fully active Catholic in the church and community, I have never got around to receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. As I have grown older, the importance of this sacrament has gotten stronger but the thought of having to go through the rigors of RCIA have become rather daunting.

  • That said, is it possible for my parish priest to perform the sacrament of Confirmation in private outside of the Easter season?
  • Is there a faster and more private way to accomplish this?

I really need to get this sorted out.

Thanks for the replies.

Kay

Fr. Jonathan replied:

Hi Kay,

As a Catholic already, you would not be in a RCIA program. Ask your pastor to put you in an adult Confirmation course. These are faster and focused on what you want. It is possible a pastor could wave the prep depending on your level of understanding. As to: could the pastor do a private ceremony outside the Easter season — that depends on your bishop. There is no way that I could make a call on that — only he can.

Glad you want to pursue this but don't look at this as hurdle to get over but as an opportunity to experience God’s call for you no matter how long it takes.

Fr. Jonathan

Dear Fr. Jonathan,

This response is most appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Kind Regards

Kay
