Hi, guys —

I have some Muslim friends and sometimes they get sad or unknowingly they do some wrong things. I want to tell them that life is beautiful and full of challenges and you have to pray to God to experience Him and have trust in Him.

I wanted to know if I can tell them to pray to Allah as Allah means God itself.

  • I definitely cannot tell them to pray to Jesus but what if I encourage them to pray to Allah?
  • Is that wrong?

  { Since I can't tell them to pray to Jesus, is it OK to tell them to pray to Allah? }

Mike replied:

Dear Lanston,

You don't want to be somebody you are not.

If you are a Christian, you believe in Jesus and that He is God-Incarnate who came for the sake of our salvation. Don't be ashamed to tell them that.

  • Why would you want to tell them to pray to a God you don't believe in?

Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and ask him to say the right thing to them about Jesus, not Allah.

If you can't think of the best thing to say, invite them to search for answers or ask questions on our web site.

Because Islamic theology is totally opposite that of Christian theology it would be wrong for you to encourage them to pray to Allah. The word Islam means submission ... to Allah. There is no loving relationship with God that is acceptable within Islamic theology.

Lanston replied:

Thank you so much.

It is so difficult to talk to non-Catholics about Jesus, especially Muslims, and I live in a Muslim country, but yes, I will follow your advice.

Mike replied:

Hi Lanston,

Thanks for the feedback.

Many times we answer questions without knowing anything about the background and the location of the individual, unless they tell us in their question.

Seeing you live in a Muslim country, I would encourage you to remember the Words Our Blessed Lord left us in the Scriptures:

10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Mark 13:10-11
