Dan wrote:

Hi, guys —

I have a question about requesting a Mass to be said in the honor of someone I know.

This person was well regarded within the community and a devout soul. I am in charge of putting together a Mass to be said in their honor and have received generous donations from people touched by my friend's life.

In honor of their great life I wanted to do something more, and have something in mind, like having a Mozart's requiem Mass said in their honor.

  • Does anyone have any idea about how much this would cost?
  • Or even if it is able to be done?

Thank you for any help you could provide.

Mary Ann replied:

Hi, Dan —

We don't say Masses in honor of people (except for the Lord and His saints) but for the repose of their soul.

You may have a Mozart requiem Mass if you can find the choir and orchestra to do it, and if you can find a priest who will participate.

  • Have you considered starting a regular prayer program in his honor?

I have a secondary web site dedicated for this purpose at HelpersOfTheHolySouls.com.

Me and my colleague, Brian Bagley, think the work of praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory has been overlooked for way too long. Our goal is to start a Purgatory Prayer Program in each of the 50 United States. If you are interested check out our mission statement and if you are drawn to do so, consider starting your own Purgatory Prayer Program. We can help with a FREE Purgatory Prayer Program Starter kit here. Once you start, you are more than welcome to change or conform our program to you or your parish's spiritual needs.

Hope this helps,

Mike
