Hi, guys —

I am a devote Catholic, but I'd like to know how many Catholics there are in each country, particularly in Vietnam, where I was born in.

Thank you.

Mike replied:

Hi, Christy —

The only one I did for the web site was within the United States back in 2007.

This is all I was able to find. The last ones from Wikipedia or Catholic Hierarchy may the best ones to review.

You may find this article from the Catholic News Agency of interest:

Richard replied:

Hi, Christy —

The annual book Catholic Almanac, published by Our Sunday Visitor Press, has population figures; check with your local library for a copy.

Mike replied:

Hi, guys —

Look what I found on Face book:

Roman Catholicism in Vietnam

On the page it states:

The Roman Catholic Church in Vietnam is part of the worldwide Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope and curia in Rome. Vietnam has the fifth largest Catholic population in Asia, after the Philippines, India, China and Indonesia.

By the information of Catholic Hierarchy Catalog, there are 5,658,000 Catholics in Vietnam, representing 6.87% of the total population. There are 26 dioceses (including three archdioceses) with 2,228 parishes and 2,668 priests.

Eric replied:

Wow, I thought it was much higher.

Christy replied:

Thank you so much.

Although I expected the number of Catholics in Vietnam to be much higher than that, I appreciate the time it took to look this information up.

I have a lot of pride in being Catholic, and could spend a couple hours explaining why.
