Depending on how deep you want to go, I recommend the Early Church Fathers by Jurgens:

• Faith of the Early Fathers
• The Fathers, by Pope Benedict XVI
• Warren Carroll's multi-volume set, A History of Christendom

Here is another good set of books.

You can also get a multi-volume set on the Church Fathers. I recommend a Catholic version, but my colleague John thinks the Protestant versions are good enough. Check out our conversation on the topic here. I think it would be helpful.
