Mary Seymour wrote:

Hi, guys —

I was asked in a discussion at work if Catholics believe that Satan can heal.  I wasn't quite sure how to answer; we had been discussing physical healings at the time. If you would like to address both issues, it would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time and may God Bless you,

In Jesus and Mary,

Mary

  { I was asked at work whether Catholics believe Satan can heal; can you help? }

John replied:

Hi, Mary —

Thanks for the question.

Satan cannot heal. However, he and his minions can inflict sickness. That being the case,
it is possible for a satanic force to stop inflicting pain.

That brings up the question:

  • Why would Satan want to do this?

Well, suppose he wanted to deceive people into following a false religious system. Then it would make sense for him to first inflict someone with some pain or suffering and then send some sort of "healer" to relieve the person of the pain or suffering. Again, his objective would be to lure you into some kind of idolatry.

John
