Hi, guys —

I have a question that is of great importance.

I am a Catholic woman who is in love with a Wiccan man. He has proposed to me but I'm not sure if marrying him would be allowed in my faith.

  • By no means do I expect to be married in a Church but would a priest still perform the ceremony somewhere else or is the matter out of his hands?

  • Also, would I still be considered a Catholic in the eyes of God if I choose to marry a Wiccan or would I be like an outcast?

Jessica

John replied:

Dear Jessica,

You're not gonna like this, but I'm going to give it to straight.

You're not looking to marry someone that just happens to be of another religion. You're not even asking to marry someone who is a complete atheist.

St. Paul admonishes us not to be yoked to unbelievers. (2 Corinthians 6:14) Your boyfriend isn't just of another faith. He is practicing magic which is demonic.

He may not realize it; I'm sure he thinks he's practicing white magic or something beneficial.
I can't put it any more bluntly: there is no such thing as white magic.

That lie is from the pit of hell, that your boyfriend has believed. I'm not saying he's a bad person. I'm sure he's probably a great person, but if he's practicing Wiccan, he's been deceived by a lie of Satan.

Scripture is full of prohibitions against Witchcraft. By marrying this man, you are openly yoking yourself to a Witch. The ramifications of this are very serious.

If you are a Catholic that knows her faith and you truly love this man, your concern would be to get him out of this occult practice and introduce him to Jesus Christ, before something horrible happens to him.

Of course, you are an adult and are free to make your own choices, but I can't urge you in any stronger terms. You shouldn't be worried about whether the priest will perform the wedding.

Your concern should be saving this man from the occult and then worrying about getting married.

John
